The Conference “Actual tendencies in the Justice System for the children and family”.
On 15-16 october 2009, Scheherazade Foundation organized a conference in partnership with National Authority for Child Protection, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior and Administration , Superiour Council of Magistrates, Public ministry and council of Europe. The conference took place at the Faculty of Law from Bucharest University. The conference was funded by the Royal Embassy of Netherlands in Bucharest.
The idea behind this conference was to conduct trainings for lawyers and Government institutions to specialize in defending children’s rights on the basics of UNCRC and EHRC(European human rights convention).
To create a pool of lawyers from the private firms who will defend child right cases in Romania. For this purpose Wolf Theiss Law firm volunteered to defend the cases of children on probono basis. The lawyers will form a partnership with child protection authorities in order to have pro bono cases referred to them.
This project will contribute in creating a child rights culture in Romania that will allow a better respect for the rights of the children who appear in court for various charges.
At the conference the following topics were: child protection against violence, child protection against trafficking, child rights in relationship with the family and juvenile delequency.
The international experts had come from European Court of Human Rights, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Austria.
This conference was organised within ”Juvenile Justice” project finnanced by the Netherlands Embassy in Bucharest
